History
At the players request a Saturday side was formed and as so many players signed it was decided to enter a Reserve Team too.
Later the Saturday club were still increasing in the number of players wanting to play. It was obvious that Gold Park Mundesley was not able to provide football for all who wanted to play. ........
Permission was granted from Knapton Parish Council to play on their playing field. Becouse of this we then entered a third team.
------------------------------------------
In 1983 the saturday and sunday clubs decided to amalgamate. In the meantime Mundesley and District Recreation Association, known as Madra , bougght the land adjacent to the Knapton playing field. A club house was built and an extra football pitch and cricket square were provided.
It was decided to play mens football at Madra, allowing the youth teams (under 12's u14'5 and u16's) to still play at Gold Park. Becouse we now had the players and the grounds two under 18's teams were formed.
In 1992 Overstrand Football Club and Mundesley formed an association, with Overstrand moving to Madra. The current season has seen Overstrand change their name to Madra Football Club.
In the season of 1995/96 there were five saturday sides and three sunday teams, also under 14's team an under10's team wanting to run teams for the season.
A very active time for the club.
-------------------------------------------
By 1995 things were not so good Struggling Mundesley had to take their A team out of the John Rossi League due to a player famine. Having been a highly respected club who were seldom out of the honours duriong the 1980's Mundesley had to inform the league that they were short of players and there was no option but to pull out one team. The first team were also at the foot of the table in division one, and found themselves unable to sign players of the quality needed to compete at that level.
Some people viewed Mundesley's decline as a direct result of moving their headquarters from Gold Park to Madra in the village of Knapton where they played in the shadow of Madra (Formerly Overstrand) who were hugely successful in the Anglian Combination senior ranks.
Mundesley said at the time "Its not just Madra competing for our best players. North Walsham and Cromer are also doing well and quality players are now at a premium in North Norfolk. The players are attracted to those clubs which are perceived to be most successful"
